I am an LMFT (licensed marriage and family therapist) in Santa Barbara. I provide counseling to teens and college age individuals, relationship therapy, counsel on life changes, parenting, help with divorce, relationship advice, as well as help with dating, love and communication. I serve the greater Santa Barbara area including Goleta, Montecito, Summerland and Carpinteria.
The problems that many of us face do not exist in a vacuum; they must be understood within the context of the overall relational or environmental system in which they operate. For example, it's no secret that family dynamics can be complex and demanding. During counseling, my aim is to help you gain clarity regarding the various factors that might be contributing to a particular issue, so that you can be empowered to arrive at your own solution.
As a therapist, one of the most important elements of my work is to take the time to really listen. Perhaps you haven't felt the liberty to really talk about the problems you're facing with a friend or co-worker, or maybe factors within your family dynamic make you feel as though you can't open up and express how you're really feeling. I'm here to listen with intent, and to provide you with a "sounding board" so that we can work together to get to the root of the issues. This process of therapy will lead to the discovery of practical solutions that you can apply to make genuine progress.
Sometimes certain changes or transitions take place that have the potential to bring lots of stress and/or anxiety to our lives. Perhaps it's a situation within the family such as divorce, domestic abuse or stage-of-life changes, or maybe it's more of an internal struggle such as depression, social anxiety or self-esteem issues. Whatever the case may be, the important thing to remember is that you are not alone.
